An affordable 3D print bed adhesion aid for PLA, PETG and other compatible materials. Fiesta Hairspray can be applied to a removable build plate to help the first layer grip the print surface. It is a low-cost alternative when a purpose-made 3D printing adhesive is not available.

This is an aerosol hairspray being offered for an alternative 3D printing use. It is not manufactured as a dedicated 3D printer adhesive, so adhesion and release performance can vary by material, build surface and print settings.

Why 3D printer users use hairspray

  • Helps improve first-layer adhesion when prints are lifting or failing to stick.
  • Works well with PLA and PETG on suitable build surfaces; results with other materials may vary.
  • One application can often support multiple prints before a fresh coat is needed.
  • Low-cost and easy to reapply.

How to apply it safely

  1. Remove the build plate from the printer every time. Never spray hairspray inside the printer.
  2. Make sure the removable plate is clean, cool and dry.
  3. In a well-ventilated area away from the printer, spray a light, even coat over the intended print area.
  4. Allow the coating to dry completely. If more adhesion is needed, apply another thin, even coat and let it dry.
  5. Return the dry plate to the printer and complete normal bed levelling and first-layer preparation.
  6. Reapply only when adhesion begins to decrease or after the plate has been cleaned.

Cleaning the build plate

Remove the plate from the printer before cleaning. Wipe away heavy, sticky residue with a paper towel, then wash the plate with warm water and a suitable mild cleaner. After the residue is removed, prepare the surface for the next print using the cleaning method recommended by the build-plate manufacturer. Isopropyl alcohol may be used only on surfaces for which it is approved.

Important precautions

  • Do not spray inside the printer. Overspray can coat fans, rails, belts, sensors, electronics and other internal components.
  • Hairspray residue is sticky and can attract dust. Contaminated mechanical components may require cleaning and re-lubrication.
  • Use in a well-ventilated area and avoid inhaling the spray.
  • Keep the aerosol away from heat, hot build plates, sparks and open flames. Allow the plate to dry fully before reinstalling it.
  • Check your build-plate manufacturer's care instructions first and test a small area if compatibility is uncertain.
  • Keep out of reach of children and avoid spraying towards the eyes or face.
